Delete your SnapAction account

SnapAction account deletion is available inside the iOS app. It deletes your SnapAction account and associated SnapAction data without deleting your shared ReScience sign-in identity or data in unrelated ReScience products.

Short answer

In SnapAction, open Settings, choose Account, then choose Delete SnapAction Account. If an Apple subscription auto-renews, cancel future billing before deletion. You can still delete immediately without canceling first, and deletion does not cancel App Store billing.

What this deletion affects

SnapAction uses a shared ReScience sign-in identity so one login can be used with more than one ReScience product. The identity provider for that shared login is Clerk. Deleting SnapAction does not delete the shared Clerk user, unlink its Google, Apple, or GitHub sign-in methods, or delete another product’s data. It removes the SnapAction product account and SnapAction’s product-specific identity marker.

This is deletion, not temporary deactivation. As soon as the request is accepted, the old SnapAction account generation is blocked from normal reads and writes while cleanup runs.

What SnapAction deletes

Deletion covers data owned by the SnapAction account, including:

  • the SnapAction account, access grants, invite records, and product preferences;
  • synchronized resources, scans, digests, chat threads and messages, staged captures, and owned files;
  • feedback attachments, client log uploads, usage and scan-event records;
  • SnapAction email preferences and pending product emails;
  • device push and Live Activity tokens; and
  • account-scoped data on the device, including the local resource database, chat projection, caches, pending operations, defaults, and the SnapAction session.

Deleting SnapAction does not delete original images from Apple Photos. Photos are removed only when you separately use a screenshot-deletion feature and confirm Apple’s Photos prompt.

What may be retained, and why

SnapAction keeps only limited deletion records needed to finish the request, confirm its result, prevent deleted data from being recreated, protect account security, and meet financial or legal obligations. The current maximum retention schedule is:

  • Sensitive deletion bindings — up to 15 minutes after deletion starts: temporarily binds the consumed request to the current account, session, and reverification result.
  • Deletion status access — 8 days: lets the app check completion after the sign-in session is destroyed and observe the full seven-day completion-email retention window plus 24 hours.
  • Best-effort completion email address and payload — 7 days: temporarily supports a secondary email confirmation when delivery is available and is erased sooner when its delivery purpose ends.
  • Completed cleanup counters and bounded error code — 30 days: verifies cleanup and supports investigation without retaining message text.
  • Verified storage-deletion evidence — 90 days: proves that owned files are absent.
  • Pseudonymous product-deletion proof — 180 days: prevents delayed jobs or provider events from recreating the deleted account.
  • Pseudonymous deletion security outcome — 365 days: provides security and deletion audit evidence.

These are maximums; records are removed sooner when their operational purpose ends. Raw email, display name, Clerk or Apple subject, IP address, device token, authorization credential, and raw App Store identifier are not retained as deletion proof. Where proof is still needed, SnapAction uses a keyed pseudonymous value rather than the raw identifier.

Legally required transaction facts can follow Apple, payment-provider, tax, or applicable-law retention rules. They do not include deleted SnapAction content. A separate minimal, pseudonymous anti-resurrection record can be retained indefinitely only when the shared identity itself is deleted outside SnapAction; ordinary SnapAction product deletion does not create that global identity record.

Ordinary SnapAction product deletion does create a different, narrowly scoped HMAC-only signup-consent deletion fence. It stores no raw email, raw identity, or consent decision. It exists only to prevent an old signed signup handoff from recreating marketing consent after deletion, and it does not block a later explicit account recreation or genuinely new subscribe action. This indefinite fence is separate from both the 180-day operational product-deletion proof and the shared-identity anti-resurrection record described above.

Timing and confirmation

The app blocks the old account and starts cleanup after confirmed reauthentication. Many requests finish promptly; when cleanup is asynchronous, the app reports an estimated completion window of within 24 hours and keeps an opaque status capability for up to eight days so it can check progress after sign-out. This in-app status is the authoritative completion confirmation. If cleanup takes longer than the estimated window, status remains accessible and support can help. Keep the status screen available until it reports completion.

When a deliverable address is available, SnapAction may also send a transactional completion email as a best-effort secondary confirmation. Its temporary recipient data is erased in no more than seven days and sooner when its delivery purpose ends. A missing, failed, delayed, or expired completion email never blocks, reverses, or rolls back deletion that the in-app status reports as complete. If the app reports manual action required or support required, SnapAction data cleanup has not been silently treated as complete; follow the displayed action or contact support.

Apple subscriptions

Deleting SnapAction does not cancel an auto-renewable subscription, stop Apple billing, or request a refund. If your subscription auto-renews, use Manage Subscription on the deletion screen to cancel future billing before deleting. Deletion remains available immediately whether or not you cancel first, and deleting the account does not stop an active subscription from renewing.

If you later create a new SnapAction account, Restore Purchases restores entitlement only. SnapAction verifies current StoreKit evidence and may attach an eligible entitlement to the new account. It never restores the deleted account’s resources, chat, scans, preferences, logs, files, or other content. A transaction already attached to another active SnapAction account is not moved automatically.

Sign in with Apple

When the Apple authorization can be safely attributed to SnapAction, the deletion flow attempts to revoke that authorization without deleting the shared ReScience identity or unlinking its Clerk sign-in method. Raw Apple authorization codes and tokens are not retained as deletion records.

If automatic revocation is unavailable or fails, SnapAction account deletion still continues. The app marks the Apple step as requiring manual action and directs you to Apple’s Sign in with Apple settings. Follow Apple’s current instructions for managing apps that use Sign in with Apple and review Apple’s confirmation carefully; Apple notes that some developers use Sign in with Apple for more than one app.

Using SnapAction again

After deletion, signing in with the same shared ReScience identity does not reopen the old account. You can explicitly register a new, empty SnapAction account with a new account generation and fresh settings. Delayed webhooks, background jobs, and App Store notifications are not allowed to restore the deleted generation.

You may deliberately use Restore Purchases for an eligible subscription after creating the new account. That changes entitlement only; deleted content remains deleted.

Third-party processing

SnapAction uses Clerk for shared identity, Convex for its account-backed service and file storage, Cloudflare for transactional email delivery, Apple for authentication and App Store subscriptions, and AI/search providers for requested screenshot analysis. Product-account deletion removes SnapAction-owned account data and its links to those services according to the scope above; it does not delete the shared Clerk identity or records independently controlled by Apple.

Some processors can retain limited security, delivery, billing, or service logs under their configured policies, terms, or legal obligations. SnapAction does not promise erasure from a processor when that processor does not provide per-user erasure. It limits account identifiers to what is required for each processor’s role and removes SnapAction-owned linkage and deletion records according to the bounded schedule above. Contact support for a processor-specific deletion question.

Deletion support

Account deletion is initiated in the app, not by emailing support. Contact hello@snapaction.ai if:

  • the status says manual action or support is required;
  • the estimated completion window has passed;
  • you need help understanding subscription or Sign in with Apple steps.

For support required, include the non-secret SA-... support reference shown in the app and your app version. That reference lets an authorized operator look up only bounded deletion status and error codes. Do not email a password, one-time verification code, Apple authorization material, authentication token, private key, or deletion-status link. If the status screen is unavailable or its capability has expired, support can explain the deletion policy but cannot reconstruct the capability or identify a purged case from personal information. Completion email is best-effort and is not a replacement for the in-app status.

FAQ

Does deleting SnapAction delete my ReScience login?

No. SnapAction deletion is limited to the SnapAction product account. The shared ReScience sign-in identity and data belonging to unrelated ReScience products remain intact.

Does account deletion cancel my App Store subscription?

No. Apple controls App Store billing. If your subscription auto-renews, use Manage Subscription in the deletion flow or Apple’s subscription settings to cancel future renewal before deleting. You can still delete SnapAction immediately while the subscription is active, but deletion does not stop billing.

How does SnapAction confirm deletion?

The app's opaque eight-day status capability is the authoritative completion confirmation. SnapAction may also send a best-effort completion email when a deliverable address is available, but missing, failed, or expired email delivery never blocks or reverses completed deletion.

Can Restore Purchases recover deleted SnapAction content?

No. Restore Purchases can restore a verified subscription entitlement to a newly created SnapAction account. It does not restore resources, chats, scans, preferences, logs, or other content from the deleted account.

Can I use SnapAction again after deletion?

Yes. Signing in later lets you explicitly create a new, empty SnapAction account under the same shared ReScience identity. The deleted account and its content are not reopened.

What if Apple authorization cannot be revoked automatically?

SnapAction data deletion continues. The app reports that manual action is required and directs you to Apple’s Sign in with Apple settings. Contact SnapAction support if you cannot complete the Apple step.

Need help with a deletion request?

Deletion starts inside the SnapAction iOS app. Contact support when the app reports manual action or support required, or when the estimated completion window has passed.
